President Bush outlined a $2.5 billion initiative that would give consumers tax credits if they purchased a vehicle with either new, cleaner-burning diesel engines or gasoline-electric hybrids. Bush also said he supported wider use of ethanol, biodiesel and nuclear power. Oooh! A nuclear car. We want one of those! Back to the real world, the tax credits would help consumers offset the added cost of alternative technology. Low-sulfur diesel and tax credits could help the diesel cause in the U.S.
