Volkswagen AG announced profits of $91.6 million for the first quarter, up from $34 million in the same period in 2004. Analysts point to the company's streamlining costs as the main reason for the increase. A full line of new vehicles from the Audi A4-A8 and new VW Jettas, Passats and GTIs in the U.S. should help the rest of the year as well. But VW is cautiously optimistic.
