Chery engineers sound iffy

Malcolm Bricklin is one of the most confident men in the business but the engineers in China have more "grounded" outlook to Chery's big plans. After reading this good sized story about Chery and the push to create high-quality cars priced 30 percent below the lowest priced competitor starting in 2007 you don't get the "warm and fuzzies". Some choice tid-bits: Bricklin's nickname at Chery is "The Mouth". One engineer said, "Maybe" they will meet the deadline and another said, "We will play it by ear." Does that sound like the super-ambitious company that Bricklin has touted? At least it sounds like the people responsible for engineering the cars will not release them to the public until they feel they are ready, even if it doesn't meet the deadline. That is unless The Mouth forces the issue.
