Drunk driving killers: sentences too short?

The Yorkshire Post Today [UK] reports that 20-year-old photography student Carmel Hallan was killed in August 2003 by Joseph Robinson, who smashed into her taxi after a 10-hour drinking binge. Prior to the "accident", Mr. Robinson appeared in court 11 times in two years, including five motoring offenses. (This despite never having received a license to drive.) A Crown Court judge yesterday sentenced Robinson to five-and-a-half years in prison, less than half the maximum sentence at the time of the offense. He's eligible for parole in three years.
