Detroit Auto Show: Jetta me not impressed

I'll readily admit I went into the show not expecting to like the Jetta in person. And what do you know I was right. I don't think the rear-end is as Corolla-esque as in photographs, I can see now how it carries over from the past generation Passat. But I have two major problems with the Jetta.

The first is the front-end. I don?t mind the face they?ve put on the cars I just think the hood is too short and ends too abruptly. Perhaps this is for pedestrian safety but I can?t believe there isn?t a better way. The second major problem with the Jetta is the huge body panel gaps. Between the front and rear door the gap is huge. I could almost fit my pinky in there. Not that I tried with all the people around. But I bet it would?ve fit.

The Ragster concept was kinda neat but I?m not a Beetle person. Anyway to refreshen the dying design is a good idea.
