Holiday good-cheer options for GM employees, pink slip or furlough?

Yesterday GM officials confirmed they'd be laying off between 250 and 300 employees at its Oklahoma City assembly plant. The location employs over 2,600 people and produces the Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Envoy XUV and Isuzu Ascender. The remaining employees will get an extra two weeks off after the New Year and will return to work Jan. 18. However, GM will pay the employees 75% of their wages along with unemployment benefits. This comes amid growing sales of the SUVs in question, but those sales numbers could be a bad indicator with so many vehicles sitting on lots.

Oh and don't ask me why the photo that ran with this story features vehicles with trunks, clearly not SUVs.
