Big brother take note: speed cameras lousy at saving lives

An official UK report (like from the actual government, not a third party organization) has been released stating that motorist deaths have increased at many locations where speed cameras have been installed, with some casualty figures nearly doubling. On the same day the death increase news came out, UK Transport Secretary Alistair Darling announced that 100 lives a year were being saved because of the cameras. So is somebody lying here? Possibly maybe— but the disparity may come from certain camera'd sites showing marked safety improvements.
