Audi ditches Pikes Peak appellation in favor of "A7"

In a not particularly bold move, Audi will call its new SUV-crossover thingy the A7. The concept vehicle formerly known as the Pikes Peak is finally taking shape and should come to fruition in the Spring of 2006. A few specs have been nailed down by Edmunds' investigators: the A7 will ride on the same platform that supports the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne; it will initially be juiced with the 4.2 liter V8 seen in the A6 and A8; the interior will bring three rows of seats and an available full-length moonroof. Figure $60K for this luxury and performance beastie, and about $10K less for a possible V6'd model. No word yet on what the A7 may mean for the future of the Allroad.
