GM's 1st African American Design Chief featured in Newsweek

Ed Welbourn oversees 600 designers and 11 studios for General Motors. If that doesn't sound daunting enough he also has the unenviable task of making one of the most boring auto-makers hip. The new studio boss is the man behind the Cadillac Escalade and has even asked rapper Xzibit for input on the next generation of the hulking SUV. Welbourn also designed the curvy Chevy roadster SSR. Perhaps he should ask ZZ Top for some advice on the next SSR, if there is one.
