Overview

The Volkswagen Golf R is the most powerful Golf model available in North America. The four-door Golf R is powered by a 292-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox, (DSG), which allows the driver to shift sequentially, without doing the clutch work, via paddles on the steering wheel or the shift lever itself. That power is directed to the ground through Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system which can direct 50-percent of the torque to the rear wheels if necessary. Styling is subtly more aggressive than the regular Golf with unique front bumper and side skirts, LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, black painted brake calipers with the R logo and a rear bumper that incorporates a diffuser and chrome-tipped quad exhaust. An extensive list of standard equipment is included, features such as alloy pedals, leather interior, heated front seats, rearview camera, 6.5" touchscreen display, dual-zone automatic climate control, and keyless access with push-button start. For 2017, the Golf R adds high beam assist to the Driver Assistance Package.
