The first 2012 Fisker Karma will finally be delivered by the end of this month and, fittingly, film star Leonardo di Caprio will get the keys to Karma numero uno. Al Gore and Colin Powell will be taking delivery of their plug-in Fiskers soon thereafter, according to Autocar.

Fisker tells the British magazine that five Karmas roll down the lines at Valmet Automotive in Finland a week now. The automaker says production will rise to 300 units a week starting in November and, with 3,000 pre-orders tallied, Fisker estimates the Karma is sold out until early 2012.

Here's where the report gets fresh. The UK-based news outlet says that sedan, convertible and shooting-brake versions of the Karma will eventually be produced and that the shooting-brake model will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Autocar continues by speculating that Fisker's $48,000 plug-in, dubbed "Project Nina," will be offered in the same three bodystyle variations as well.

I'm actually a little disappointed that Fisker didn't auction off the first one for charity. Probably would have raised a quarter million or more. BTW, does Al Gore know that this car BURNS GAS too?

Cool looking car with impressive tech but horrible packaging compromised in the name of swoopy futuristic styling. Sat in one at the LA Auto Show and getting in and out of the back required stepping over a massive jamb over the rear wheel. Once in, it was snug, bordering on claustrophobic. The front wasn't much better. The fit and finish was horrible too and the paint had huge metal flakes reminiscent of a 70's dune buggy, but then again, it was a prototype so I'm betting those will get better. The trunk is laughably small. Can't see rich (fat?) older people dropping $90 k into a car they can barely get in and of.

The Mercedes CLS makes similar compromises yet seems to be selling well

The manufacturing impact of a car is tiny compared to the operational impact, and any larger impact caused by having a battery pack will be more than offset in on the road use. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.1021/es903729a A Karma (or any other lithium ion battery carrying hybrid/full electric) has a lower footprint due to it's lower operational impact, period.

Batteries need to be replaced. Show some evidence of any large number of hybrids needing their batteries replaced.

Nothing here...move on, boy it is tough being green. All I can say is how about spreading some of that wealth around liberal progressives?

Love this car! Henrik is a great designer too, despite what vitriol Elon Musk spat at him over the Model S design. Really nice guy and I hope him and his brand massive success!
