2011 BMW 6 Series Coupe Concept – Click above for high-res image gallery

BMW's press conference at the Paris Motor Show won't take place until later today, but the boys from Bavaria left their Concept 6 Series Coupé hanging around on the display's massive curved plinth.

While we couldn't finagle our way inside to take a gander at the interior (at least not yet), the crisply styled GT clearly foreshadows the nearly-here 6 Series production model. The attractive and surprisingly large coupe borrows bits from Beijing's Grand Coupe concept as well as the new 5 Series, particularly in the nose.

When it arrives next year, the serial 6'er will likely be powered by BMW's range of turbocharged and naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines, with eight-cylinder motivation reserved for the next M6.

World premiere: the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé.

The 2010 Paris Motor Show is the setting for the world premiere of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé. This design study for a premium-class 2+2-seater is the embodiment of a passion for aesthetics and dynamics. Flowing lines and aesthetically sculpted surfaces define the design of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé, in which classic BMW coupé styling cues are given a modern rendition. Among the innovative details featured in this concept study are full LED headlights and a newly designed, freestanding Control Display for the iDrive operating system.

So really, the awkward bubbled butt (trunk) wasn't enough and now they are doing it to the hood too?
      What's next, the doors?

For a BMW $70K sports car this is rather bland looking, only new BMW design that SOMEWHAT appeals to me is the new BMW 5 series, rest are rather uninspiring and forgettable. I am more than sure this will be a monster to drive but aesthetic wise two thumbs down.

guess it's like the panamera... it will look totally different (better?) in real life!

The "unbangling" of BMW continues... Unfortunately, the execution is subpar. I want BMWs to look like proper BMWs again.

Looks hideous. The last 6-series was one of my favorite BMW's. This is comparing the new CLS to the old one, where the new ones have forgotten what they are supposed to be and came out boring and blobby.

that is one ugly front end.
Flat, I can kind of see that.

Low... not with ground clearance like that, especially under the front end.

      Mean... not getting that.

The headlights are decent, even if the edges aren't very sharply finished.

The grilles, especially the full-width grille under the headlights, is boring, and busy for the sake of being busy.

The car has zero rake. The roofline is sleek, but the body of the car looks just as high in the front, as the back.

It looks like it is leaning more toward a grandpa luxury coupe, not a sporty GT.

mean... like a mean, old, librarian...
BMW front ends remond me of Dame Edna.

The front looks like a Volvo wagon. Another aweful design from BMW. As a former '98 540i 6-spd owner, I am sad to see BMW go from sporty/aggressive to heavy/conservative/luxury. That's why I bought an Audi S5 instead of another BMW.

Bangle didn't have the most appealing designs in its time but they were designs that grow on you, so you can slowly appreciate it. BMW's latest designs are incredibly bland and weak. This car is no exception. Alongside that comment, I don't understand why BMW would spend so much money differentiating the different series, only to make them look similar again.
Bangle was head of design, he didn't actually pen them... That was the work of Van Hooydonk, the jackass who BMW put to fill Bangle's spot when he left.

I love it, although it would be extremely impractical to drive in a big, congested city. It's just HUGE considering it's meant for 2 people.

The 6-Series has always been a 2+2 since the E24 6-Series. If I remember correctly, the E63 was praised for how much room there was in the backseat compared to a Continental GT.

I agree- the packaging of this car is atrocious. It makes the MB SL seem tidy.

Ok, now that you got the 6-series out of your system, greenlight the Grand Coupe concept which looks so much better to me.
