Gran Turismo 5 – Click above to watch video after the jump

Sony and Polyphony Digital have become a dynamic duo of boys crying wolf when it comes to the holy grail of driving simulators – Gran Turismo 5. We've been infuriated by repeated blown launch dates, faux teasers and rumored content so many times that we've nearly lost all interest in what was once one of our favorite ways to blow a few hours in front of a console. Nearly. Word has just come down from E3 that the game will launch on November 2, 2010, and that not only will it pack all of the standard tracks and cars we've come to expect, but the game will be playable in 3D. Get your paper spectacles, kids.

The news came along with a new trailer for the game, and the quick spot's got us crawling back like the kicked puppies we are. We'd be lying if we weren't placing our pre-orders as you read this. Hit the jump to see the action for yourself, complete with damage rendering, fender-to-fender ally action and plenty of the most drool-worthy race metal on the digital planet.

I wonder if the photography simulation will be back? I actually enjoyed that part of it. After winning a trophy car, taking it to a scenic back drop and take photos of it. Or capturing action shots during the replay.

Photo Mode is likely in the game, it was panned at first but just like many things you might not like or don't understand it becomes incredible useful for things like PC Desktops and now your Home Page for the game itself.

Critics of the car selection in the game -

Just like the knock that GT is some how Japanese bias which it is not, the various of a few cars does count as 1 and if you don't like the Mine's EVO X, then you can get the JUN X, who cares? It appears to me that Japanese tuning shops like the "free advertisement" while people like Hennessey have a shady background and its clientèle is less likely to own a PS3 or GT and is over 50 in most cases. GT is driven by those who mostly have compact cars, not hot rods or muscle cars. Those cars and iconic supercars are what drove the popularity of the game, not ten versions of the Mustang GT or Camaro.

But overall your bitching is not warranted you just wanna bitch to hear yourself roar. There are confirmed 1000 cars in the game (Not including DLC) and if you can't find something that isn't already in your driveway in the game or a car you would love to own, then put the controller down, sell your PS3 and go buy an Xbox, maybe Turn 10 has you covered and then you can use your hands for an imaginary wheel with Forza 3 Kinect.

I hope this game doesn't require heavy usage of offline mode like forza to obtain all the unlockable content.

In todays game market, people like to head straight online and get into the action.
Before i had even made it online with forza i was already tired of the season play.

This is why games like COD are big hits, they don't bore you to death before you have the tools necessary to compete online.
I'm just the opposite. I don't do any online racing at all so I'm hoping that there is not going to be any type of online only points or unlockable material that is going to be required in GT5.

Oh goody. I've always wanted to see what it's like to drive an '88 Honda Civic on a race track! Not. People who obsessively crow about the number of cars on GT5 forget that 400 of the 800 are different Supras and Skylines.

The physics just aren't as good as those in Forza 3 though it seems like they finally decided to add a damage model the fifth time around. I think Forza 4 will be light years ahead of this game.
Sez who? Have you played the latest version of the game, were you at E3 or the private press conference held tonight? If not then you're blowing smoke. You exaggerate as well, there are not 400 copies of Skylines and Supras in the game.

Fozra has terrible track selection. There are only two tracks in the game that that I hope are in GT.

Stop crying about physics, GT moves consoles, Forza does not, its just Xbox's competitor to GT like Sega GT in a previous life time. GT can demand $100 for a book, the game, DLC, 1:43 GT Skyline and GET IT, this will sell out and Sony has already hinted there will be a GT bundle by Christmas.

I find it funny that G4 spent all there time talking about Star Wars and FPS style games when the biggest game of E3 was given a firm release date and it shut down GTPlanet.

I don't know why people voted you down, your completely right about the cars. Just went back and looked at the GT4 car list. 128 of the 700 cars are made up of just skyline, nsx, sti, rx-7, evo, silvia variants, 49 of those alone are just skylines!!!!
What's interesting is that Forza4 might be coming out right about the time this is finally released? Lol.

Damn.... i was thinking about getting all A's in school next year... oh well i guess i'll have straight A's till November 2nd :p
        • 4 Years Ago
        HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA that made my day
        • 4 Years Ago
Judging by your last post, you're "definitely" not going to get an 'A' for English or grammar.
@speed12sil no i wasnt saying i was good at school, what i was tryign to say was i was trying to get good grades next year but this game is definatly going to get in the way of that dream.

and im not really trying to tell anonymous people that im the greatest coolest person out there because im not. I'm a 15 year old boy, i live in the suburbs, i go to highschool, i dont have a girlfriend, i cant even drive yet; i just love cars and thats why i'm here, believe me im not intrested in making a second internet life where everything is perfect hahah

Mmm... Pre Ordered and ready to go.

I wonder what they've done in so far as customization.
      Wondering if it's worth getting a PS3 to play this and MGS4? I already have a 360...
        And Twisted Metal...
The MGS series is truly fantastic, especially MGS 3: Snake Eater.
I meant MGS4 is worth it.
@Groza - yeah but it's a double edged sword, every game after feels trite and undeveloped. it sets the bar so incredibly high.
I still won't buy it because they have been half assing this game for the past 6 years not giving a damn about their fans but I have a feeling GT has established a lot of ass lovers who will buy the game either way and forgive them for everything. Thanks but no thanks.
I'll buy a PS3 as soon as this game comes out. And not a minute before.
You know, these promo videos are wonderful and all, but I think it's about time they show some in-game play video. These appear to be streams from game intros and race replays.

As everyone is well aware, you don't get these views when you're actually racing. Show us the baby!

psch, has hell frozen over? what next, an official sale date for the volt?
uncalled for! GM has yet to pull back on their projected time to market for the volt.

"In July 2007, General Motors stated that it would have the Volt on the U.S. market in 2010,[50] and in early June 2008, they confirmed that production had been approved, with a target of getting the Volt into showrooms by the end of 2010."

        @naggs

Online play is fee, $50 for extra stuff.
        i am so glad i havn't bought a ps3 yet

gran turismo was supposed to be a release title so that puts it about half a decade behind schedule

i was super excited for this game in 07, now its kinda meh
        • 4 Years Ago
Paul, you have it 100% right. I never bought a PS3 because I only wanted it for BluRay and GT5, but now it's neither a real good deal on a BluRay player or real interesting for GT5. So many botched launch dates, so many things added in when they should have released GT5 two years ago and be releasing GT6 this year. Why on Earth would I buy a PS3 now just for GT5, when surely a PS4 will be out sometime in the next few years. I think I will just go pick up a BluRay player at Costco for $120 and be done with it.
        @ James Sonne:
I was thinking the exact same thing. They could have released add-ons for it and keep the players interested in the game by doing so. I am not sure if they were waiting for the 3D to launch this title though? I am also one of the "holding out for PS3 until GT5 launches" guys, but by this stage I am considering getting the new Xbox and Forza and calling it a day. Or maybe just stick with GTR a bit longer...
        @Paul - yeah, that's why i bought prologue and the ps3, I had a realization GT5 would like... never come out :P
Pessimists! You guys can stick with Flopza 3 all you want. GT is for me. Forza is nice but it's not what GT5 is. Already from Demos I can tell you it's much better than GT4 or even GT5Prologue. November 2nd baby. All your lame comments about duke nukem and gt5 are unfounded, the game was always on.

I just see a bunch of disgruntled old fools and young xbots that shell out their allowance and bonuses on 'update packs' for Flopza 3 cars that are reiterations of already released cars in the game, and one's that'll be standard in GT5.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBqkvh2gi5c check out all those muscle cars, and exotics, along with Nascar. Hate all you want, I've got myne reserved yesterday.
Completely agreed, they dropped the ball. I don't know why they felt they had to include EVERYTHING in this one game. They probably would have made more money if they just made GT5, GT5:Nascar, GT5:Rally, GT5:LMP, etc. and charged $40 for each and had the games trickling out all along. Or heck, even included $10 downloadable content.

At this point, this game can't be good enough for me to want to buy it, the system, a new TV, and a wheel+pedal controller. Five years ago, I might have convinced myself it was worth the money, but now I'd rather go for a drive in my car along the countryside for a few hours in the evening. The $2500 investment and $50/year to play online would pay for a lot of my leisurely weekend gasoline costs and the few autocross entrance fees. As is, I've been perfectly happy watching Biggest Loser on my 8 year old CRT TV, I don't need HD 3D to make that experience any better ... might make it worse, actually. At least they did make GT5 3D, though. Racing without any sense of depth perception is just frustrating ... when do I brake for the turn? Now? No? Crap! *retaining wall smashed*. That doesn't do anything for me, though. Like I said before, I drive in 3D on a daily basis already.
Dunno why Forza fanboys were insisting GT5 was vaporware. PD isn't 3D Realms.
ok so i have just learned that you will need to pay an additional $50 a year to play GT5 online

i am officially over it, had the game come out anytime in the last 3 years i would have galdly dropped $600+ on a TV $200+ on surround sound $60+ on GT5 $200+ on a wheel and pedal setup and $300+ on the ps3

        now this, they get nothing
Don't hold your breath. Personally, I think putting money down in Vegas that they miss this date would be easy money.

What's sad: In the years I've been waiting for this, I've aged out of the category altogether. I actually figured I'd wait to get a PS3 until this arrived and now that thing is getting long in the tooth!
The Top Gear test track and the Stig are supposed to be in it as well. Can't wait.
I saw the Top Gear test track in the promo trailer Sony ran at the E3 press conference.
YAY 50 versions of the civic and maybe just maybe that '89 Accord will make a return in GT5. (I love the GT series of games but the MASSIVE over kill on Japanese cars on GT3 and GT4 soured it for me) Bring back the variety that GT2 had.
