Hillclimbs in Iceland – Click above to watch video

One of the many things we love about Iceland is that it has a more extreme version of just about everything, or, if it's only just as extreme, there's a lot more of it in one concentrated place. That's certainly the case with this hillclimbing video, featuring madly-engined, purpose-built buggies running up dirt, grass, volcanic rock, and any other terrain that points at the sky. So few people, so many gearheads. Follow the jump to watch, and enjoy the gent at 1:35 who believes that throttle can cure everything.

I tried this last summer. It's nothing but insane!

I was slamming the throttle up a hill that was steeper than anything I've ever seen - and then I hit a bump. I was certain that I was going to flip backwards, but the V8 in the front saved my dignity. (Some times heavy engines is just what you need...)

Check out the pictures of my test drive here (the text is unfortonately in Norwegian, but the pics speaks for themselves): http://www.klikk.no/motor/bil/article505018.ece

There is an sand quarry about 5 minutes from my home where they do these races 2-3 times every year. It's an absolute blast. There several different classes, and iirc, they have between 140 (Suzuki engine) and 800+ (blown CSB with nos) horsepower.
This is in Norway, I can only imagine the Iceland series being a hundred times more extreme.
If i close my eyes I can still hear the sound of driveshafts being obliterated.
