BMI Racing Mazda RX-8 four-rotor - Click above for high-res image gallery

We came across this RX-8 at SEMA and it immediately rang a bell. Time Attack, four-rotor, Mazda RX-8? It's the BMI Racing car we saw on Streetfire a while back. It's said to be the only four-rotor RX-8 in the world and it looks and sounds incredible. Don't believe us? You can see a couple of videos after the jump and judge for yourself.

Whats the displacement get bumped to then? 2.6L or something? Cool to see someone innovating rotaries.

MadMike has a Turbo RX8, the 4 rotor car that he has is a RX7.
damn your right mad mikes rx8 is a 20b it is the rx7 that has the 26b :(
      • 5 Years Ago
It'll probably overheat and blow a seal.
Is that a 4 rotor built from rx7 engines or some weird hybrid with two rx7 rotors sandwitched in the middle of a rx8 renesis engine?

Sounds like my nitro powered RC car! Too bad, the car is as ugly as it sounds.

It can burn twice as much oil as a regular RX8!

I have to say maybe it's dumb luck, ignorance, or maybe, just maybe, the asinine exaggerations of rotary non-owners.... but I haven't had any problems in the 2 ½ years I've had my RX 8. It doesn't use an inordinate amount of oil, gets gas mileage that I can live with, never had any cold start problems, hasn't ever flooded, haven't had any parts fail, can't complain about the dealer service. And lately when i've thought about trading in for something else (which I do about every 2 years or so) ...I go for a ride in mine, compare its features, performance and cost with other cars, and I say to myself...I really, really, like this car...still! And I can't think of anything that makes me want to get rid of it, except maybe the 2012 version, but even then, I'm not so sure. This is one of the few cars in 50 plus years that I have owned and driven that I liked this much.

@benfolio: Starts first time, every time. Even when the temperature is in the teens.

        With loads more apex seals
Sheesh. Let if frickin' go. The whole "OMFG it uses oil!!1!!" is so:

        1. Tired.
        2. Wrong.

(I own four RX-7s and an RX-8. Not much oil use between them.)
Ah, but how does your RX-8 like cold starts?

The RX8 owners on here that have replied are the smart ones. They drive their cars. Its the Sunday driver cars that have given them a bad reputation. Yes, they burn oil, they are designed to. I cant tell you how many RX8's I have pushed into my stall (Mazda shop foreman) and deflooded. At one point we were doing 3-4 a week. Its much better now with all the latest PCM reflashes, but we still get them. But yes, I am standing up for the RX8, even though I hate them, LOL

I am thinking that youtube vid sounds like the gas weed whacker my dad had when I was a kid. However it sounds really nice in the video on the track.

I like the 787B. Can you tell?
      Pretty sweet track car.
I think Mad Mike in NZ drift series has already been running a 4 rotor Rx8

Now that's what I'm talking about!
