2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year nominees - Click either image to start the list

The 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards are still months away, but the "long list" has leaked out and it's an odd mix of good, mediocre and, in several cases, not-yet-released.

Fifty journalists from around the continent have voted for 37 vehicles, with 12 offerings hailing from Japan, 11 from Europe, another 11 from the U.S. and three from Korea. Strangely, the Suzuki Kizashi, which hasn't even debuted in production guise, is included in the cars list, while the upcoming Honda Crosstour, the pseudo-wagon-cum-crossover, is listed (as a "truck" no less) despite only being recently confirmed by Honda and spied in the Great Smoky Mountains. Also of note, there's not single Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep offering to be found on the long list, which will be whittled down between now and the awards ceremony at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

Check out all the contenders for this year's award in both the car and truck categories, and let us know if they missed anything in the comments below.

Will someone help me understand why the 2010 Ram HD is not on the list

the Suzuki Kizashi is going to be a great car! and they have allowed many to drive it already, just because they haven’t reviled the final photos doesn’t mean that it can’t be in the list... I did like the final concept look better than what it looks like the production car will be but I know it will still be a great machine.

I'm sure many people are reviled by its pictures

That kind of enthusiasm is all fine and good, but will it sell. no one's posting the declines they've posted the last year or so running.

        @zamafir
I agree... Suzuki is going to have a hard time selling anything here... this car might help as they have no midsized car on the market and their last offering was a truck that failed as a Nissan.....

cannot really see the camaro, mustang, genisis coupe, or 370Z taking the top honors. each is a pretty sweet car in it's own right but i think they are all a bit too limited in their appeal (tire squealing gearheads and enthusiasts of all ages only). i would almost expect the prius to "win by default" or "automatically win without even considering the other vehicles".... but it's probably the one car i hope does not win. the new ford taurus and buick lacrosse i think are both well deserving as they are both dramatic, monstrous improvements over their predecessors. between them the ford would probably win by sheer virtue of the fact for all the hate that exists toward anything GM. if the camaro or lacrosse won the award there would probably be riots in the street with people gettin shot and stabbed. the kias may be the cars to watch out for here, the soul and forte are both credible new players in the compact market and are getting reviews as pretty decent rides with some genuine flare. the fusion might also be a strong contender for it's hybrid model which is surprisingly good and it's a real car i might actually want to drive unlike the prius or insight.

the only thing on the truck list that deserves to win is the ford mass transit or maybe the landrover LR4. not sure why the new F150 and Ram aren't there

I think the Audi Q5 should most definitely be in there, that is one beautiful car inside and out.

        that 3.2l's also kinda fun.

the car side will be really close. Lots of good cars.

But on the 'truck' side, sure a lot of them are crossovers, but two of them are still prototypes, how can they really be on that list. and the subaru, the forester I could understand, but the outback, is just a optioned out Legacy.

there seem to be no trucks on the truck list :S
        • 6 Years Ago
The "truck" list is awfully pathetic....most of these are crossovers. :/ I would be happy, and this would be kinda funny, if the Transit Connect won. :)
I thought I had hit the link for the cars list by accident. That is a pretty pathetic "trucks" list.

I would like to vote for an embargo on any further pictures of new Acuras until they stop beating them with the ugly stick. That shield grill isn't getting any better with age. I am afraid if it keeps up I will lose my vision all together.

Therein lies the future of "trucks"
Doesn't a truck......... well have to be on a truck platform? Crossovers are just the new station wagons, not a truck.
I agree - the new LaCrosse looks SO good.
Man no Audi Q5 and S5?! Yet BMW gets like 4 entries? And Honda gets all their ugly crap up there?
My money's on the Fusion Hybrid for the win this year.
That's not a truck list, it's a cross over list! What a waste of time it was checking that out!
