A Matter of Taste: Rolls-Royce delivers golden Drophead Coupe to Abu Dhabi

It says a lot about a place when a gold-gilded Rolls-Royce comes across as the most tasteful thing we've seen there recently, but so it is. Following the gold-accented Camry spotted in neighboring emirate Dubai, a brand new Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe has been delivered to its new owner in Abu Dhabi. But this convertible is distinguished by a gold paintjob and an actual gold-plated Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament (Seriously, the owner couldn't spring for a solid gold hood ornament?).
The car was created as part of the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Program, which allows customers to specify all manner of optional extras, both inside and out. Of course, this example was also fitted with the optional stainless steel hood, twin coachlines, teak rear deck and Rolls-Royce emblems etched into the headrests, but the gold touches put it over the top and square into evil arch-villain status.

Am I going to get eaten alive and burned at the stake for saying it looks pretty good? Color matches my ski and mountain bike set :X

it looks OK, i mean, it's the chrome that makes the gold stand out.
i'm lying, it's the gold that makes the gold stand out.

It definitely doesn't look as bad as that hideous gold accented Camry from the other week.

I think it looks good. I've seen far worse colors on cars.

Does the "Bespoke" program allow you to buy better rims? those kind of look hub-cappy.

I just don't like the color gold. Especially when combined with silvery colors like chrome and stainless steel. Why not something like a pearlesent paintjob? That stuff isn't cheap.

Every time I fill up my Civic with gas, a 18 yr old in Dubai buys a gold Ferrari. I love globalization!

I think it is hard to find any colour combo for a car which essentially unattractive. The Rolls is simply not a beautiful car.

I love the RR Phantom Drophead Coupe. Gold is pretty swank indeed.
Fix those damn headlights, totally fugly.
The signature grill is way too common looking.
Lose the gawdy stainless steel hood.
And what's with the window vents? Those are extremely passe darling...a relic of the 50s and 60s. Yech.
Forgive me, but I think I will pass and keep looking for my Bentley Turbo-R convertible. Now, that's a driver's car!

Even if i had that kind of cash lying around I would never buy a Bently, even if they were cheap. To me they are about as tasteless as a Chrysler 300C.
Now if it was a sporty and aerodynamic sports car then it will catch my interest.

Just terrible combination of the gold with the silver. the gold hood ornament does not match the gold paint either. everything should have been painted gold and maybe some gloss or matt black wheels.
Bespoke its like burger king "have it your way" but this person added hummus and maple syrup to his burger.
looks are subjective but thats just plain ugly.
