The Subaru WRX STI has the speed and agility to be a track star, but on dirt, few machines on earth can keep up with the sprightly little screamer. The impressive little Scooby can scoot just like the last-gen model, but now it does it with a refinement the old model lacked. For fans and foes of the AWD pocket rocket, team Subie made a one-minute video tribute to the coolness that is STI. Hit the jump to view some seriously amazing jumps, flips, spin-outs, crashes, and power slides featuring the old car that concludes with the '08 ride tearing up the tarmac. If you don't want to go drive an STI after watching this clip, you may be dead.
Seriously! I am totally that guy who bitches on the internet about how Speed channel killed the WRC coverage for more NASCAR. I had to stop visiting the WRC site to check out what was going on with the current season because I would get so hostile!
That's an awesome commercial. Does Subaru have the record for farthest jump in a car? Also, the disclaimer at the bottom, "Do not attempt. Really. Do not do this." Classic.
That's great. It reminds you that cars like the STI and EVO actually have a ton of heritage compared to things like the BMW1. Too bad we can't fet Euro Rally Focuses here.
Its kinda funny that I see all of these STi's making these jumps and power slides while mine is sitting that the dealer getting its 3rd rear strut in 50k miles!
Notice they also cut the clip right before the landing in alot of those bits. Also notice the condition of the front bumper in the drive-by shots. If you are driving your STi like that, 3 struts in 50K is incredible!
Oh, and learn to turn a wrench. Struts are so easy to replace.
Watch the commercial again. There's plenty of landings - and yes, the front ends of those cars in those events should be getting a beating - as should about every other part of the car.
Even with a one minute commercial (minus branding), you can't show every landing with every jump. Would make for some very stale editing.
Regardless, after showing all that glory, the new STI sliding around looks pretty timid...
I consider the new WRX's styling too far a departure from their previous offerings (unfortunately), but geez, with a commercial like that, you can't deny the STI's awesome history as a kick-ass rally car.

I wish every car commercial was this way.

WRC makes NASAR seem like a visual sleeping pill. I can't understand why it isn't more popular in the US

Rally cars are so cool.

The Imprezza is still the ugliest car I like.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Apr 12th 2008 5:57PM
I think the GT-R passed it up for me. But the STI is still in the top 3.

Yeah, or a euro focus period. 2010 seems so far away :/
Seoultrain @ Apr 12th 2008 6:22PM
2010 is optimistic. We won't get the Euro Fords until our dollar is worth something. I'll venture a guess of 2012.

Euro Focus is here now, only its called a Mazda 3

Learn to turn a wrench.

98% of those STI's in the commercial were modified. Notice the new STI only did drifts, guess it isn't as "tough" as the older ones.

That part wth McRae rolling with the yellow car and then moving on is really cool.
Awesome ad.
