Do you love it or hate it? Either way, you'll need to fork over some extra cash if stepping up to the new top model in Pontiac's G6 line up, the G6 GXP. The 2008 Pontiac GXP Coupe will start at $26,595 and the sedan version will base at $26,795. Both prices include a delivery fee of $650.

If you're really daring, you can hand the dealer another $990 for the Street Edition Package that violates all manner of civilized taste. Included in the Street package is a "hammerhead" spoiler that could easily seat two for lunch, as well as all sorts of "scoops and bezels" on the hood. As far as we can tell the G6 GXP comes with that garish nose regardless of whether you choose the Street Edition Package.

The front-wheel drive G6 GXP comes with GM's 3.6L V6 producing 252 horsepower and 251 ft-lbs of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. That should be enough to squirt the car past that chuckling mob of onlookers, although push it too hard and torque steer might drive you right into them. The car's also feature a performance-tuned suspension and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. If you can't tell, we're not big fans of the G6 GXP's styling, but otherwise it's got some decent hardware to back up being labeled a GXP car.

I was going to write something nasty and mean. But instead, I think I'll test drive the car before I make any rash decisions about it.

      OMG!

Is that the front end from that Maibach/ Batmobile/ 3rd Reich Swizzle-Stick show car of last year.

GM have no shame, nor any taste.

The GXP package isn't worth the extra money and it doesn't compete against Scions, I thought BMW was the target. The GXP option would look more fitting on the G5 coupe. Too much overkill!

        @Ben K.
Dude. BMW was never the target with the Pontiac G6. And if it was, somebody messed up with targets...

I don't get it...those engine specs are the same as the GTP...would they really launch a performance version with the same power when everything else they've tacked GXP onto has gotten at least 40hp more than the next lesser version? I'm a GM fan but thats just retarded.

i actually liked the G6 GXP, even if it is FWD. i know i'm in the minority here though =P

Ok. I hope the styling of this car puts to bed any criticism of the Holden Commodore/G8!

Why the long face? Sales numbers got ya down?

Really, that buck-toothed pouty face is making me chuckle. Don't get me started on the "ironing board"...

Did GM do some market research showing that potential G6 owners might feel emasculated by the 15 year old riced out Accord in the next lane. Is that where this silly design came from?

Utter carbage. And just when I thought GM was starting to show some common sense. Maybe the Bubbas who watch NASCAR will like that rear wing.

I'm with you John, that is a nasty car. And I don't mean Janet Jackson nasty either.

Another class leader for GM! Take that Camry! Silly Japanese, you can't catch up!

When I saw the 08 Malibu, Aura, Sky, and the new GMC/Buick crossover, I thought GM was going in the right direction, at least style wise. Then all of a sudden, this Aztec reborn pops up...major disappointment. Please...people at Pontiac, do 2 things:

      - add manual as an option to every single model in the lineup
      - drop all current models except GTO and Solstice

        The GTO died in 06.
