Do you love it or hate it? Either way, you'll need to fork over some extra cash if stepping up to the new top model in Pontiac's G6 line up, the G6 GXP. The 2008 Pontiac GXP Coupe will start at $26,595 and the sedan version will base at $26,795. Both prices include a delivery fee of $650. If you're really daring, you can hand the dealer another $990 for the Street Edition Package that violates all manner of civilized taste. Included in the Street package is a "hammerhead" spoiler that could easily seat two for lunch, as well as all sorts of "scoops and bezels" on the hood. As far as we can tell the G6 GXP comes with that garish nose regardless of whether you choose the Street Edition Package.
The front-wheel drive G6 GXP comes with GM's 3.6L V6 producing 252 horsepower and 251 ft-lbs of torque and a six-speed automatic transmission. That should be enough to squirt the car past that chuckling mob of onlookers, although push it too hard and torque steer might drive you right into them. The car's also feature a performance-tuned suspension and 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. If you can't tell, we're not big fans of the G6 GXP's styling, but otherwise it's got some decent hardware to back up being labeled a GXP car.

Please don't let me see one on the road, please.......
Have to have some plastic bags handy in the car from now on.

Don't get upset because it actually has some semblance of style.

I'm with you John, that is a nasty car. And I don't mean Janet Jackson nasty either.

I drove a G6 once. It was the worst car I have ever driven. Choppy on anything other than a smooth road, horrid blind spots, the mirrors were mounted too far forward, the interior was totally unergonomic, and it handled like crap. Did I mention the only way to shut the door was to grab the map pocket and pull it closed? They mounted the door handle in a completley unusabel position. I think I'd rather have a chevette.

Are you sure you were driving a G6???
I've ridden in my friend's G6. I liked it a lot. I was on very bumpy and curvy roads and it road and handled fine. I had no trouble shutting the doors either.
You must only drive Bentleys if you think the G6 is the worst car ever.
There aren't any truely crappy cars anymore. There are better and not as good, but nothing as crappy as the things we drove in the 80's. *shudder*

Go feed your BS lies else where. My sister drives a G6 and you can use the door handle perfectly fine. Unless you are 1 ft tall and can reach all the way.......

Nope, he's right! I own a G6. All of his points are accurate. I figured I could live with some issues and quirks for the great deal I got, but yikes.

I've got a G6 and it's not that bad. To be honest, I was looking at either a Mazda 6 or a G6 and I was going for the Mazda 6 when I was swayed by the better deal I got on the G6. Having said that, it's a good car: it handles well, the V6 is strong and gets decent economy, the door handles work fine, the interior is actually quite nice (better than any Chrysler product), the side mirrors are ok (rob - just in case you've never tried, you can adjust them) and I've never noticed a blind spot.
Having apologized for the standard G6, I have to say that GXP variant looks awful. That bucktoothed spoiler is so over the top retarded. What frigtard in Pontiac's design studio drew that and thought it was a good idea?? The whole appeal of the G6 for myself and probably a number of people like me was that the design was more subtle and mainstream than the previous heavily clad Grand Am - and now they go and pull this goofy crap again?

My Mazda3 had the engine flooded during the thunderstorms in Chicago last Thursday evening. So I got a rental, 2007 Pontiac G6, and drove it back to Canada. Surprisingly, I was pleased with the car, which had much better fuel economy with it's V6 and 4-speed autobox compared to the I4 and 5-speed manual that was driving with my Mazda3. Overall, the 900km I put on the G6 was good and for the money, I think it would be on the list of cars to buy for a family sedan. I'll have this G6 for a few weeks until my insurance company decides what they want to do with the flooded Mazda3. My initial rating of the G6 sedan (not coupe) is an 8/10.

I personally am just so sick of front wheel drive cars.

Here's the smallest violin playing just for you. :)
Front-drive suits economy cars just fine. Better mileage, predictable handling, less wasted interior space. I, personally, am getting sick of these "FWD is teh suXX" posts. Yes, front-drivers are a compromise, and yes, front-drive is a bad choice in some circumstances, such as in five-thousand-pound luxury sedans or two-seat sportscars. Not every car is a five-thousand-pound luxury sedan or a two-seat sports car. Sometimes, horror-of-horrors, front-drive is a good idea.
Get over it.
Back on topic: yes, this car is silly and yes, GM's designers have no sense of restraint when it comes to tack-on cues. It's what GM does--this is the company that designed Cadillacs with tail fins so large they could cut someone in half. GM designers have a long and storied history of being absolutely tasteless.

That was the styling of the day. Back when your ricer lexus didn't exist. No need to cry on GM in every one of your posts.
SocalObserver 7:31PM (8/24/2007)
Speaking of ricer Lexus, this G6 is ugly but the IS-f is just as bad, if not worse
psarhjinian 8:24PM (8/24/2007)
Hey, GM deserves every styling lump they get. Every time I take my '02 9-3 in for work I sob a little at what was done to the 9-5. They took a perfectly attractive car and whored it up with chrome.
I'd also like to note that the new 9-3 is, in fact, also overwrought and ugly. The first iteration of the Epsilon 9-3 was a nice looking car that needed a better interior--so what does GM do? Leave the interior more or less as-is and whack the outside with an ugly stick. The G6 is the same: it needed some minor suspension work, better interior materials and a steering rack that didn't suck. So GM, instead, adds stick-on hood vents. Amazing.
This is the same mentality at work: a car isn't selling well? Slap some shiny crap on it and hopefully the magpies.. err.. customers will buy it. I[m sorry, but GM cars, by and large, only look good after about 30 years have passed and they become "cultural icons". Sort of like pompadours, bellbottoms or disco, really.
Mike G 11:09PM (8/24/2007)
psharhashjinian - speaking of restraint, how about spraying some on that name of yours. It's out of control.
And are you really drawing a stylistic distinction between a Saab 9-3 and a 9-5? They look like the same car to me. What does one have bigger rocker panels? And extra inch of plastic bumper? A different set of standard alloy rims? I don't get it.

i actually liked the G6 GXP, even if it is FWD. i know i'm in the minority here though =P

Considering how good it's siblings the Aura and 08 Malibu came out how can this one be so bad? This is a frighteningly hideous package for an otherwise super-bland car.

"six-speed automatic..."
Didn't the G6 use to have a manual? Wouldn't be fitting to at least have the "high performance" version with at least an option for a manual?
I'm a GM fan but if the general wants me to get a manual equipped Accord coupe instead of a G6 manual coupe, then that's what I'll do.

A 6speed manual was available in 2006 on the GTP only. With a 3.9L 240HP V6 OHV engine.

As an owner of a 2006 Pontiac GTO and someone who generally wants to see Pontiac do well, let me say this: The Pontiac G6 GXP is ugly beyond ugly.
