Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG
As the horsepower wars rage on, the AMG team saw fit to stuff the 4-valve DOHC 6.2-liter V8 into its entry-level sedan and create the C63 AMG. With 475 hp being created at 6,800 rpm and 465 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm, Stuttgart's luxury brand is seeking to give the RS4 and soon to be released M3 a run for their money. While air is siphoned in through a redesigned front air dam to feed the beast, power finds its way down to the wheels through Mercedes' new 7-speed automatic. Uber-pricey composite brakes are up to the task of slowing forward progress with little to no fade and beefy rear rubber makes sure all the horses are used to good effect.
Although the camo-covered Merc doesn't lend much in the way of body panel styling hints, Inside Line notes that the new headlights are getting a more taut rearward pull, dumping the old ovals for a closer family resemblance to the S-Class.
The debut of the new C-Class is due at this September's Paris Motor Show with vehicles finding their way to dealers sometime in early 2007.

I've seen these spy shots about 2 weeks ago. Nothing new.
But I am still excited to see the final product.

Haven't been much of a fan of the AMG versions of the C-Class since the original C36 but this C63 sounds like one hell of a car. Hopefully Mercedes will offer an optional performance package chassis option with a more aggressive suspension like they've done on some other recent AMG models. Without such an option, the AMG C-Class is never going to compete well in comparisons with the M3 and S4 in terms of handling/responsiveness.

I'm sure it'll be blisteringly fast in straight away driving - what about the handling? The C55 I test drove was very unimpressive. Tires started to squeel at less than moderate speed coming down a freeway on ramp.

In this battle, the RS4 is still THE car you have to beat to get noticed... MB your falling short.

they need a 6.2L V8 to make 475 hp? the RS4 only needs 4.2L to make 420hp!

On the journey from C36 (1995) to C43 (1998) to C32 (2002) to C55 (2005) to this C63, one thing will have changed: a 1995 M3 going from more fun than a lame-driving 268 HP Benz boat of the time to being more fun than a lame-driving 475 HP Benz boat of 13 years later.
Power is petty compensation for driving dynamics.

I think where the old C-class AMG got beat was the looks. If the new one looks like some of the artist renditions and is influences by the CLS and new S, it might be a winner. I just wisht he rumored CLE, C-class variant of the CLS becomes a reality because that might make me ditch my G35 coupe.

Interesting that the grill appears to the emblem integration that has previously been used for "coupes" (2- and 4-door). On sedans, MB ususally uses the more conservative grill with standup hood ornament.
