Dodge Nitro gets green light
Dodge announced to nobody's surprise that the Nitro will go into production as a 2007
model year vehicle. The concept vehicle was first shown at February's Chicago Auto Show, where
it was widely speculated that the Jeep Liberty platform it sat on made it likely the vehicle would see the inside
of a showroom. We're still not sure where the Nitro would be made, how much it will cost, when it will go on
sale, whether it will still be called the Nitro, or whether the SRT we've seen in
spy pics will come to bear as well — maybe as a V8
with Chrysler's cylinder deactivation technolgy?

That thing is gross, how many cars is that grille interchangable with now? 2 million?

I actually think it looks pretty good. A lot better than the Liberty on which it is based.
Hopefully it'll have more power available than the Liberty. The 3.7L is only adequate, especially with 4WD. It'd be nice to see a more powerful six under the hood. Or a turbodiesel six???

Heh -- it looks like a beefier and less-slopey HHR. (:

I don't think it's too bad. It depends on the price, and what type of engine is available. Hopefully it will include the diesel that is available in the Liberty. Such a combination would offer the consumer a good choice for utility, room, economy, semi-offroad/winter driving, and limited trailering. We shall see.

I don't think that it looks half bad. If it has a nicely appointed interior, roomy accomaddations, and enough punch under the hood, it will probably sell. If they can get at least 240 ponies and a fuel economy rating of 26+ highway, they'd definitely have something on their hands.

Just as long as they make it in "nitro yellow-green", one of the factory colors on 1995 Neons.

If Chrysler had to make another truck, it would have been much sweeter if Jeep could re-enter the small pickup market (base it on the Liberty?).
With the Dakota and S-10 being recently upsized, Dodge & GM don't have a small truck to their names.

Dude, that side gill/grille was lifted directly from the Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

I like it, but it needs to come in more colors.
