First look of the Genesis Electrified GV70, the upcoming all-electric version of the compact luxury SUV. Specs will be announced closer to its production date in December, but in the meantime, Autoblog Senior Editor James Riswick goes over how the Electrified GV70 differs visually inside and out from the internal combustion version. We would guess that its range and performance will be in the ballpark of the Genesis GV60 and Electrified G80. TranscriptJAMES RISWICK: That is the new Genesis Electrified GV70, and this is how it's different than the non-electrified GV70. Now, normally in the automotive industry, the term electrified is kind of a euphemism for just adding a larger battery to an internal combustion engine, making it a mild hybrid and giving it the very marketing friendly term electrified to kind of make people think it's all electric but it's not even close. In this case, though, it's totally all electric. So not only is it electrified, it is 100% electrified.
Now, we actually don't have specs available at this point about the electrified GV70. So besides the fact that it's all electric rather than having an internal combustion engine, let's talk about how it's different visually. The biggest visual difference is the grille. It's blocked off like an electric car would have. And it has the most successfully hidden charge door in the industry. Seriously. You have no idea it's there.
Next up, the wheels. They are special to the electrified version. And then at the rear, different lower bumper area, aerodynamically enhanced, and yeah, no exhausts. Don't need them. The interior is effectively shared with any other GV70, which is a great thing because this is one of the most beautiful interiors around. But there are a few key differences. For starters, the boost button, shared with the GV60, gives you an extra blast of electric power for a small amount of time. The gauge is slightly different. There are still very cool and 3D rendered, however, electrified elements in there.
And then this color. It's called glacier white. It is special to the electrified GV70. And it includes these very nice copper elements in the piping. Now, if I were a betting man, I would say that the range and performance specs of the GV70 will likely be in the ballpark of the GV60, as well as the electrified G80. But we will know for sure when those specs are released closer to when the electrified GV70 enters production sometime in December.
