Overview
The Scion xD is based on the European designed Toyota Yaris. It's a five-door hatchback that Scion describes as an urban subcompact, with a vertical rear tailgate that's in keeping with the latest Euro look. The xD is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that puts out 128 horsepower. There's a choice of a standard five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission. The rear seats are split 60/40 and can be folded down flat for increased cargo carrying capacity. What's more they can be moved forward or back up to six inches for increased leg room and they can also be reclined up to ten degrees. Safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist, front seat mounted airbags and side curtain airbags for front and rear passengers. A vehicle stability control system with traction control is optional. The Scion xD is a brand new model for 2008, it replaces the subcompact Scion xA.
