Autoblog Smart Buy Program
Overview
The Hyundai Veracruz is the company's first mid-size sport-utility vehicle. Hyundai hopes to beat the class benchmarks (Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander) in powertrain performance, standard safety features, and cargo volume. The Veracruz has a cabin that is trimmed with brushed metal, instruments are illuminated with crisp blue backlighting, cupholders are ringed with glowing blue light, and cubbies are lined with a soft, velvety material. All Veracruz models will seat seven, with a third row that tumbles flat into the floor. It is powered by the 3.8-liter V-6 introduced in Hyundai's Azera sedan, with advanced systems like continuously variable valve timing and a variable intake system. This engine delivers 260 hp and 257 pound-feet of torque. This is connected to a six-speed automatic transmission and puts power to the ground through an all-wheel drive system. The Hyundai Veracruz is all new for 2007.
