In many ways, Maserati's second-generation GranTurismo is completely different than the model it replaces. Due out for the 2024 model year, the coupe features a new platform, all-wheel-drive instead of rear-wheel-drive, and a twin-turbocharged V6 instead of a V8. The result is a sportier car that's more powerful and more nimble to drive than before. It continues to offer four real seats and a luxurious interior, and this time around the cabin gains the latest technology features. Visually, the GranTurismo is still characterized by a long hood, a short decklid, and a low slung silhouette.

RONAN GLON: Hi, folks. I'm in chilly Italy checking out the new Maserati GranTurismo. It's due out later in 2023, and while it shares a lot of styling cues with its predecessor, it's a completely new car. It's built on a new platform, it's all-wheel drive, and it's powered by the 3-liter twin turbocharged Nettuno V6 engine shared with the MC20, among other models.

You might remember the last generation GranTurismo was rear-wheel drive and powered by a V8 engine. Downsizing from a V8 to a V6 is not very sexy on paper, but it's got a lot of advantages. First, the Nettuno V6 is more powerful than the outgoing V8, makes 490 horsepower in the base Modena, which was this one, and 550 horsepower in the Trofeo.

Second, the V6 is lighter than the V8 and engineers positioned it closer to the firewall, which improves weight distribution and handling. And this packaging solution also allowed designers to give the GranTurismo this very long low hood. Inside there's a lot more technology than you might expect from a Maserati, including a digital instrument cluster, this really cool looking clock, and two screens, one for the infotainment system and one for the climate control system.

And even though this is a coupe, it's got two actual seats. You could probably fit two average-sized adults in the back and it's got a decent sized trunk. So is the coupe segment really dead? Cast in this site, I would say no.
