JAMES RISWICK: This is James Riswick for Autoblog, and this is the all-new 2019 Toyota Avalon. And specifically, this is the two different styling versions of this car. You got the premium line applied to a hybrid on the left and then the sport line, which is the Touring trim applied to a V6 version.

Now, I don't know if you can tell this-- it might require a particularly keen eye-- but this car has a very large grille on it. Yeah, it is-- it is enormous. Now, this is the premium line. You can see that it has these horizontal lines that go across it, and then on the premium line it also has the chrome trim. that goes along there.

And on the hybrid, there are active grille shutters behind this maw that open and close, and that's both on the premium line and on the sport version of this. And one of the only differentiation points between hybrid and non-hybrid is that the logo's blue as well as also a hybrid logo right there.

Now, here on-- this is the Touring, so you can see that this has more of a black gloss mesh in its grille as well as the surround. And since the camera's picking it up, there are the LED lighting elements. Now you can see LED vision tech in there. Now, these little lines, as you can see, are actually laser-etched, and then this light down here is a cornering light. So this comes on when, well, as the name would suggest, you're going around the corner.

Now, since I'm here, I'd like to point out one of the things that does kind of drive me nuts about this car is this cut line right here with the hood. It does not extend to here, and on lighter cars it's really noticeable. It stands out. It's all I now notice.

But here are the bigger wheels that you get on the Touring versus the more luxurious-looking ones here on this limited version. So the limited would be the higher of the two premium trim levels, and it's frankly a little easier to tell the difference when inside because you can see this special called "cognac" interior. You have this weird perforation pattern. You also have wood trim here by Yamaha, as in the piano people, not the motorcycle-and-engine people.

Now, around the back, because this is the hybrid, the exhausts are hidden right there. On the non-hybrid version of the limited, they do come out, but they are not the quad pipes that are here on the Touring as well as the XSE. Other different elements-- you have a block spoiler. I know this is a black car, but it always is gloss black, whereas you don't have it here. And you note that this is chrome Avalon script, where it is black Avalon script over here. But generally, you both have sort of a quasi-diffuser look down there, but again, it is in gloss-black over here and a more matte black finish over there.

So these are the two different versions, stylistically, of the 2019 Toyota Avalon, and before I wrap up-- actually, I completely forgot-- there are the tail lights! These are kind of cool. Notice how they-- they kind of are at an angle. They tilt down.

That's one of the coolest elements of this car, and I nearly forgot about it. But I didn't, as it turns out. And I think that, from the rear, this car looks very good. From the front, that grille is a little much, but from the back, I kind of dig the new Avalon.
