Autoblog’s Adam Morath takes you on a tour of the all-new GTS variants of Porsche’s 718 Boxster and Cayman at the 2017 LA Auto Show. Under the hood, these high-performance twins are powered by a 2.5L turbocharged flat-4 that makes 365 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque. For those who opt for the PDK dual-clutch transmission, off-the-line twist increases to 317 lb-ft of torque. All that is good for 0-60 mph in just under 4 seconds. With a bevy of standard performance features and menacing blacked-out badging, the GTS may be well worth the upgrade over the 718 S models. Pricing starts in the low $80,000 range.

ADAM MORATH: This is Adam Morath with Autoblog. We are at the LA Auto Show. I'm standing here in front of the Boxster and Cayman. This is the GTS variant of the 718 twins, so we're pretty excited to see it. This is their domestic auto show debut.

What you're going to find under the hood, turbocharged 2.5-liter flat-four. That's good for 365 horsepower, which is actually 15 more horsepower than the 718 S variant and 35 more horsepower than the outgoing GTS models.

You've got 309 pound feet of torque if you opt for the manual, but if you upgrade to the dual clutch, you actually get 317 pound feet, which is great. And all that's good for 0 to 60 in just under four seconds, very impressive.

So let's take a look. Let's get a little bit closer here on the Cayman. So this, of course, is the hard top variant of your 718. You can see that there's blacked-out Porsche badging, sort of a smoky tail light. You've got blacked-out 20-inch rims there. And this is all standard and part of the GTS package, which really is this black-and-red motif. Both the inlet there, the GTS badging, and your ride height is going to be a little lower in these vehicles as well. You're looking at standard active suspension, which is what lowers the ride height.

It's also going to have this standard chrono package. Going to have standard torque fracturing and mechanical rear diff lock.

So why don't we go over to the Boxster now? We can see the convertible version. Let's take a look. We'll let it spin. Maybe get inside of this one.

Both models start in the low $80,000 range, which is about $10,000 more than the S models. So if you're already looking at a 718 S, either the Box or the Cayman, and you're optioning it up, that point, you might be more interested in the GTS, especially if you like the performance, lower right height, and all of the visual accents you get.

All right, cool. Why don't we go and try to step inside?

- People are seeming to be liking this.

ADAM MORATH: Cool.

- Guys, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We'll try to answer as many as we can.

ADAM MORATH: Oh, OK. Don't worry about it. All right, I was trying to see if we get the top down in this. They've had it actually on display with the top down. Looks great, as you'd expect. Very comfortable. Very familiar, if you're Porsche fan. Pretty much all Alcantara in here. Alcantara on the wheel.

And I tell you what, if you guys are liking this, be sure to stay tuned to Autoblog. We've got a video review with editor-in-chief Greg Migliore coming up on the Cayman S, which we recently had in our fleet in Detroit. And later this week is the GTS drives for the 718 model. So the reviews, videos, photos will all be coming up soon on Autoblog. Make sure to stay tuned. Again, I'm Adam Morath. Thanks for watching, guys.
