There's nothing more perfectly Swedish than a Volvo wagon. And the new V90 is the prettiest such wagon to come out of Sweden since... well, ever. And it's not just stylish; it's also supremely practical, with handling that will outclass a similarly sized and priced crossover or sport utility vehicle. It might be the world's most practical luxury vehicle.
Today, Volvo announced all the pricing details of its brand-new versatile long-roof, so we decided it's time to break out our computers and put our building and configuring skills to the test.

The best thing about the 2018 Volvo V90 is its subtlety. It's got great lines, beautiful detailing, and an elegance that doesn't need baubles or bolt-ons to stand out. So, instead of an R-Design, I went with the classier Inscription trim and chose the T6 AWD powertrain. I went with Twilight Bronze Metallic paint – a rich shade of brown – and coupled it with Amber leather upholstery. I added the Dark Flame Birch interior trim, and the wood-trimmed steering wheel to match. I checked the boxes for heated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a head-up display, and the 360-degree camera system and my Volvo V90 costs $62,690.Volvo V90 Information

To me the selling point of the V90 is the inherent beauty in the proportions and the lovely interior. Highlighted by the Mussel Blue Metallic paint and amber leather. Everything else is either standard or unnecessary. With that in mind, I stuck to the base T5 engine, and chose Inscription trim, because the wagon is meant to be smooth, not sporty. My few indulgences were massaging front seats and heated rear seats. I also took the Convenience Package, mostly for the gimmick of autonomous parking, but at $1,950 I might cross that off the order form if it were my money. That runs $56,815, which is a lot of money, but also strangely affordable in the grand scheme of things.Volvo V90 Information

I think the V90 is one of the sexiest vehicles on the road right now, so I wanted to make sure the exterior wasn’t painted some boring shade or tone. I went with the strangely-named Bursting Blue, which is a sexy and silvery blueish tone that really accentuates the curves. I like the simpler, base R-Design 5-spoke wheels, so I left those in place. Volvo makes a heck of a leather seat, so I opted for the full-Nappa upholstery. The heated steering wheel and the Convenience Package’s heated washer nozzles will make it more fun to play in the snow, and the Tailored Dashboard and Door Panel option just looks classy – it’s a splurge, but not a painful one. Most importantly, it’s a T6 model, since something that looks fast standing still should be able to back that up with some forward progress.Volvo V90 Information

First off, I would go with a Inscription T6. I want the seats and interior color choices from the Inscription and the power that comes from the T6. The T5 feels anemic, plus the T6 is twincharged. All-wheel drive is just a bonus. My preferred color is Maple Brown Metallic. The other paint options are shades of black, grey, and silver. I'll stick with the standard 19" wheels because I want to maintain some semblance of ride comfort. I'll add the optional air suspension for that same reason.
Inside, I want the heated steering wheel. It gets a bit cold in Michigan. I also want the convenience package and the heads-up display because I want to have all the tech. I'll also get the massaging seats and the Bowers and Wilkins sound system. I like to take road trips, and that means I want comfortable seats and a great audio system. All in, my Volvo V90 will cost me $67,690.
