Autoblog Editor Jonathon Ramsey describes the upgrades on the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder and demonstrates how to lower the manual roof.

JONATHON RAMSEY: Hello, this is Jonathan Ramsey with Autoblog and the 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder. This is the second go around for the Spyder after the first one that came out in 2011. But with this one, you get a 3.8-liter flat-six from the 911 Carrera S. In this application, it has 375 horsepower and 310 pound feet of torque. That's 45 more horsepower and 30 more pounds feet that the Boxster GTS, but this car is 72 pounds lighter.

Much of that weight loss comes from the new front and rear fascias. They're taken from the Cayman GT4 that came out earlier this year. Part of that weight loss also comes from the omission of luxury amenities like the air conditioning and the radio. And then part of that weight loss comes from this new fabric top. It's 44 pounds lighter than the fabric top on every other Boxster, and it's manually operated. Unlike that last Boxster Spyder that took 15 steps to raise and lower the roof, this one just takes 6. I'm going to try to get it done in less than a minute.

First, you pull a lever on the center console to electrically unlatch the front. After that, it's all manual. So hood comes up. And you grab the buttress and you put it like that. Do the same for this one over here. Then pull this guy up. Put that down in there. Boom. That wing goes down, that wing goes down. There is your top. You're ready to go.
