MORAY CALLUM: The design theme for the Ford GT was really to try and accentuate the efficiency of the car. Like the exterior, really-- you-- talking about the technology, putting the technology in the right place, but at the same time making a great looking interior.
It was really important to get the materials right in the Ford GT. And, obviously, a lot of the exposed carbon fiber is actually structural in the vehicle. So it was really important to actually just-- just use that where we wanted to use it. But at the same time, all the materials where the customer is going to touch is going to be soft, as well. So, getting that right balance, right, of not just making the car look [? sporty ?] with the carbon fiber, but also making it look exciting with the right materials as well, is very important.
One of the elements I think is really fresh in the GT is the upper IP is actually what we call a floating wing. And that's really nice in terms of adding visual lightness to the car. And it actually lets light flow below it. So, that, again, accentuates that sort of the arrow feel of the car in total, as well. So, that is a really nice feature. But at the same time, it's something that I think is quite fresh and unique too.
One of the major unique challenges in the Ford GT interior was the fixed [? H-point, ?] So, that actually means that all the people are sitting in the same place, the back angles adjustment for different back angles. But that actually means that the panels have to move, the steering column has to move more than a normal steering column, and at the same time, all the switches and all the controls need to be in reach. So, the ergonomics is very important to get right with that limiting feature.
