Watch drag racing go horribly wrong, in slow motion

The better angles of our nature may shout us down for it, but any longtime observer (let alone fan) of any motorsport could probably be coaxed to admit that wrecks can be entertaining to watch. Sure, no one wants to see someone get hurt, but watching high-performance vehicles go wrong is a spectacle, no question.

And, perhaps like nowhere else in the racing world, when things go pear-shaped in the National Hot Rod Association, they do so in a dramatic fashion. The video above shows this all off through the glory of slow-motion video, allowing us all to see mechanical disaster unfurl in painstaking detail. There's a lot of fire, a lot of rubber being wildly deformed and at least one engine rocketing out of the hood of a car. Trust us, this is worth a few minutes of your time.
