We've already reported that some numerous Chevrolet dealers have tried to pocket a few thousand extra bucks by jacking up prices on the Volt. Now, according to Plugin Cars, it seems that at least one Nissan dealer is attempting to increase its cash flow by demanding $5,000 over MSRP for a Leaf.

While we knew this sort of price gouging was happening with the Volt, Nissan had all but assured us that this wouldn't happen with the Leaf. In all fairness, the Santa Cruz, CA dealer that's charging $5,000 over MSRP may never see that Leaf move off the lot since other dealers have committed to selling Nissan's electric hatch for substantially less than MSRP. We suppose trying to gouge your customers is a tactic worth trying, but it also reaffirms the point that we made way back in 2007 regarding MSRP.
