Spec racing series are growing into big business, with every automaker and their cousin getting in on the action. The latest to join the fold is the Chevy Cruze, which is being launched in the UK for Cruze Cup.

While the Cruze touring cars in the WTCC are heavily modified, the Cruze Cup machines are closer to showroom stock, with some requisite modifications for track use, including an FIA-certified roll cage, fire extinguisher and racing bucket with six-point harness, along with KW Racing suspension, Rimstock wheels and Dunlop slicks. The 1.8-liter 16-valve engine, however, remains stock with 141 horsepower channeled through a five-speed gearbox.

The UK series, which was unveiled at the Autosport International show in Birmingham, kicks off at Rockingham on April 10 as a support race for the Dunlop Sport Maxx cup.
