Axeon gets 2.5 million lithium ion battery order

British battery supplier Axeon Holdings has just recieved a £2.5 million order to supply lithium ion battery packs and charging systems to Modec for their electric delivery vans. Combined with a previous order for some initial test packs, Modec has now ordered 172 packs and chargers from Axeon.

Axeon has almost completed the validation of prototypes of their production design pack and is preparing to start building them. They expect to deliver packs later this year and into the first quarter of 2008. The 51.2 kWh packs give the Modec van a 70-mile range per charge. A higher capacity pack with a 100-mile range is also being developed and should launch by mid-2008.
