Nissan has announced pricing for the 2008 version of their smallest US Market car, the Versa. The Versa can be had as either a four door sedan of hatchback, with the former starting at $12,550 and an extra $100 for the hatch. Both versions can have their 1.8L four cylinder paired up with either a shift it yourself six-speed, we'll shift for you four speed or a CVT.
The most efficient CVT version is rated at 27/33mpg city/highway (new 2008 EPA numbers) which is rather unimpressive for such a small car. The Versa sedan is also now available with the sport package. Fortunately the sport package won't have any real impact on the efficiency since it only raises the level of "performance styling" without addressing the actual measurable performance.

For 2008, the Sport Package is now an option on the Versa Sedan 1.8 SL model (previously available on Versa Hatchback 1.8 SL). The Sport Package adds a higher level of performance styling with a rear spoiler (roof-mounted for Hatchback, decklid-mounted for Sedan), lower body side sill extensions, unique front and rear fascia (Hatchback) and chin spoiler (Sedan) and fog lights.
The starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2008 Versa Sedan 1.8 S is $12,550 with 6-speed manual transmission and $13,350 with the 4-speed automatic transmission. The Versa Sedan 1.8 SL with Nissan's advanced Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmissions) is priced at $15,550.
The 2008 Versa Hatchback is offered in four models: Versa Hatchback 1.8 S 6-speed manual transmission at an MSRP of $12,650; Versa Hatchback 1.8 S 4-speed automatic transmission at $13,450; Versa Hatchback 1.8 SL 6-speed manual transmission at $14,650; and Versa Hatchback 1.8 SL with Xtronic CVT™ at $15,650.
All 2008 Versas are equipped with a standard 122-horsepower 1.8-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine – providing the highest standard horsepower rating in class.
The 2008 Versa also delivers excellent fuel economy. Estimated 2008 EPA fuel economy is 27 mpg City/33 mpg Highway with the CVT transmission; 24 mpg City/31 mpg highway with the 4-speed automatic transmission; and 26 mpg City/31 mpg Highway with the 6-speed manual transmission.
