Brussels puts pressure on EU nations to promote green fuels

/
Following the announcement of the new tax structure for biodiesel in Germany, European Union administrators in Brussels are being pressured to take action against member nations that fail to promote green fuels. Europe plans to produce enough biofuels to replace 5.75% of its fuel needs by 2010. While Belgium, Italy, and Poland received written warnings from the European Commission last year for failing to take action on the directive, the European Biodiesel Board believes the EU should impose fines or apply political pressure. While Germany announced plans that will gradually wipe out all the tax benefit of biofuels, the British Treasure has guaranteed until 2007-2008 that the duty on biufuel will be 20p less than what is levied on regular fuels.
