E85 now open for business at Lakeside Ampride

Iowa, one of the major ethanol-producing states in the U.S., had another reason to celebrate during the Fourth of July holiday. The city of Council Bluff opened another E85 filling station on Monday, this time at the Lakeside Ampride station at 4040 South Expressway. This is the second one in the city; the first one is located a few blocks away at Phillips 66 Fill and Food.
On hand at the opening was the Iowa E85 team which consisted of representatives from Iowa Corn Promotion board, the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition, and the American Lung Association. Dealerships Rhoden Motors, Tim O'Neill Chevrolet, and McMullen Ford had representatives on hand to promote their  flexible fuel vehicles. Fuel prices were $2.30 a gallon due to a 9 cents discount and the station had pumped over 600 gallons by mid-afternoon.

The station also represented another milestone. According to David Sieck, past president of the Iowa Corn Growers, the state produced more ethanol than its consumer consumption which he attributed to the lack of flex-fuel vehicles.
