While Sebastian and his roommate are piecing together their
home-built apple seed biodiesel processor, I would prefer a stack of
micro reactors under development at Oregon State University. The small device pumps vegetable oil and alcohol through tiny channels, and converts the oil into
biodiesel almost instantly. The micro reactor basically eliminates the need for a number of steps required for traditional biodiesel production, making it faster and less involved. This could make it feasible for biodiesel production at each farm, eliminating the need for distribution, but further research is needed to make it commercially feasible.
