GM's Daewoo division was in tough shape about six years ago, and as a result, the automaker was forced to shed workers. Sound familiar? But then the story takes an odd twist -- Daewoo has recovered, and as a result, it has begun rehiring some of the 1,700 workers that were let go during restructuring.
As we see it, such actions will help further labor-management trust, and that's a necessary thing when a company takes a painful action in the short-term for the purpose of long-term health... a lesson that the rest of the industry would do well to take note of.
