Fed joining the biodiesel movement

The U.S. Departments of Agriculture (DOA) and Energy (DOE) have announced it will be pooling its resources together to decode soybean DNA in the government's first steps towards increasing biodiesel production.
"Both agencies will leverage their expertise and synergize activities involving agricultural and energy related plants and microbes," said Dr. Ari Patrinos, an associate director with the DOE.

The DOE’s Joint Genome Institute facility in Walnut Creek, California, will be the lead for the two-year project. The project is part of a push by the federal government to lessen dependence on foreign oil supplies.
