Proton launches luxury model

Asian automaker Proton is hoping to place at least 1,000 units of its new Chancellor luxury sedan with heads of state, captains of industry, and anyone else willing to shell out RM138,000 (approximately $36,500 US) for its four-seat wafter.

The Chancellor, essentially a stretched Proton Waja with a 2.0L cribbed from the company's Perdana sedan, was conceived to be a chauffeur-piloted limousine. Appropriately enough, the leather-lined cruiser was placed with government officials during the 11th Asean Summit, where it reportedly was very well received.

It went on sale Wednesday.
