Free parking for Prius in Spanish city

Alberto over at Autoblog Spanish tipped us off to an agreement signed in Spain between the Madrilian locality of Alcobendas and Toyota Spain that allows owners of a Prius to park their vehicles for free within the city's controlled parking zones. Apparently this is one of the most polluted cities in Spain and the measure is meant to reduce the amount of C02 released via auto emissions. According to Alberto's post the Prius emits one ton of C02 less than a normal diesels, which are very popular in Spain. Though the Kyoto protocol is not widely followed in Spain, this agreement is thought to be the first of its kind to actively promote the purchase of hybrids in the hopes of reducing urban pollution.
