One of the more interesting press releases we've seen

Somebody was trying to get Volvo's attention. If you aren't familiar with PRNewswire, it's a tool used by public relations practitioners and marketing folk to get their stuff into the hands of reporters via a reputable source, that being PRNewswire. It costs a pretty penny to send anything out via PRNewswire, so imagine our surprise when we ran across this interesting release:

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ ? An unmerited decision, made by Volvo
Cars of North America, has left Gregory Dixon with no other choice but to
pursue filing a racial discrimination lawsuit against the company. Gregory
Dixon, Sales and Marketing Manager of the Western Region, was on a career
track to become the first African-American male at the executive level at
Volvo Cars of North America, a division of Ford Motor Company, until he was
denied the promotion to Regional Vice President, Western Region without
justifiable reason. Instead, the position was awarded to a white male with
less education, work experience, and customer relationships than Dixon.

?After 50 years of selling vehicles in the United States, there continues
to be no African American males at the executive level within Volvo,? said
Gregory Dixon. ?I have been employed with Volvo for sixteen years and I have
an excellent employment record.  My background, training, experience, current
position at Volvo, employment history, along with my educational
qualifications, made me the best suitable candidate for the Regional Vice
President position.?  Justifiable rationale has not been given for the failure
to promote Dixon. Dixon adds, ?The economic impact of this career altering
decision is an estimated $1.5 million?.

Gregory Dixon is currently being advised by legal council and has also
enlisted the assistance of the EEOC by filing a claim of racial discrimination
against Volvo Cars of North America. Dixon states, ?Many have thanked me for
having the courage to bring this discrimination issue to the forefront.? Still
the company has not responded to any of Dixon?s expressed concerns. Therefore
his quest for justice continues to move forward.
