Lotus launches 2006 Elise and Exige

The new model year of the successful Elise and Exige models is marked by improved standard features and a wider range of options, from touring through sport versions.

Standard equipment improvements include many features first seen on the limited edition Elise Sports Racer, including LED rear lights and a new lightweight pedal box with drive-by-wire throttle. New-design driver and passenger seats with "ProBax" technology offer increased comfort and lighter weight. More pics and option details after the jump.

Options come in two Touring Packs and two Sports Packs. Touring Packs emphasize comfort, with leather interiors, electric windows, uprated sound system, various interior trim touches, and (gasp!) a cup holder. The Sports Packs offer dual oil coolers, traction control, a stiffer suspension for the Elise, and a roll hoop and sport seats for the Exige. At the top end, the Sports Pack includes the lightweight forged wheels from the Sports Racer, track-level suspension, and uprated tires for the Elise. A 6-point rollcage is available separately.

Stand-alone options include traction control, limited-slip, air conditioning, and a removable hardtop for the Elise.

Base price in the U.K. for the 2006 Elise is about $49,300, while the Exige starts at about $52,800.
