Edmunds forecasts record low market share for U.S. automakers

The combined October market share for Chrysler, Ford and General Motors is forecast to be 53 percent, a record low, and down nearly 2 percent from September.
Compared to a year ago, sales of all three automakers will be down sharply: Chrysler, down 6 percent; Ford down 22 percent; and, GM down 19 percent. Only Chrysler increased its market share year over year, form 12.8 percent to 13.2 percent.

Edmunds blames the poor showing on fewer new model launches, lower incentives spending, and high gas prices.

Toyota U.S. market share is predicted to be 14.8 percent, vs. 16.8 percent for Ford, and 23 percent for GM.
