Robin Good reports that the Italian motorway concessionaire Autostrade Group, and wireless ISP Linkem have partnered to provide mobile WiFi access along major Italian highways. Prepaid access to the network can be purchased at service stations and runs about $7.90 for one hour, or $15.60 for 24 hours.

It's easy to imagine accessing localized traffic information via RSS feed, perhaps to your built-in CarPC. How about VOIP telephony?

Linkem already specializes in providing wireless internet access to business travellers (airports, hotels, conference centers, etc.).
