Panasonic World Solar Challenge - electric Frisbees race across Australia

In what can only be termed an extreme alternate energy competition, 22 solar powered cars set off across Australia on Sunday, racing from Darwin to Adelaide - a distance of 1,860 miles.
Fastest qualifier Sky Ace Tiga (pictured), from the Ashiya University in Osaka, Japan, led the way. The solar-electric car is capable of averaging about 60 mph, which must be pretty exciting for the driver, given that nice-to-have features like driver comfort and handling have been sacrificed in favor of aerodynamics and low rolling resistance.

The record time for the event is 30 hours 54 minutes, set by Dutch team Nuna 3 in 2003.
