Fans rally to preserve Minardi's place in F1 history

The Minardi team may have been sold to Red Bull, but its legions of fans are determined to see the historic name preserved. With rumors suggesting that it's likely that the new owners will rebrand the team, fans are rallying to keep the Minardi name, which has been a fixture in Formula 1 for more than 20 years.

The largest Minardi fansite, forzaminardi.com, has started a petition in support of preserving the Minardi name in F1, claiming more than 5,000 signatures so far.

I'm not sure how I would feel about the naming issue if I'd just paid $45 million to buy the team, but I applaud the fans' passionate efforts to preserve a piece of racing history. Check it out.
