Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche to develop new hybrid engines

It's automotive musical chairs! Make sure to find your hybrid drivetrain partnership before the music stops.

Just a few days ago, I posted on the lack of hybrid vehicles slated to appear at the Frankfurt Show/Europe in general, and it seems that I was somewhat misinformed.

On the heels of the announcement made last week by GM, DaimlerChrysler and BMWVolkswagen, Audi and Porsche today announced an alliance for pretty much the same gig. Audi, whose parent company is Volkswagen, indicated that it would take the lead on the project.

Additionally, as you can see from John and Randall's coverage of Frankfurt, Mercedes may just have an S-class with a hybrid under the hood waiting in the wings.
