This thought-provoking interview with Michelin Competition's Director Pierre Dupasquier looks at the issues behind FIA's democratically-elected dictator Max Mosley's proposal for a single tire manufacturer in F1.

It is interesting to note that the principal reason for a spec tire is to reduce the need for testing - as if teams would not find another reason to test. You have to wonder why they don't attack the problem directly and just limit testing? This strategy works for the Australian V8 Supercar series, for example.

From a business standpoint, it seems foolish to eliminate a major sponsor and advertiser from F1 at a time when the sport is trying to reach a wider audience. But hey, nobody said the workings of F1 made sense.
